Our Home Base - Siletz, Oregon
Tad Oliphant Construction is headquartered right here in Siletz, at 174 Chetco Court. This isn't just another service area for us - it's where we live, where our family is, and where we've built our reputation one project at a time. When you hire us, you're hiring a neighbor.
Siletz sits along the banks of the Siletz River, tucked into the foothills of the Coast Range about 15 miles inland from the Pacific. The community is surrounded by dense forest, with the river running through the heart of town. It's a quiet, tight-knit place where people know their contractor by name - and that's how we like it.
Homes in Siletz face a unique set of challenges. The river proximity means constant moisture in the air and soil, which accelerates wood rot in decks, siding, and structural framing. The dense canopy of Douglas fir and hemlock keeps things shaded and damp, creating ideal conditions for moss growth on roofs and fungal decay in exterior wood. Many homes here were built decades ago and need updating - not just cosmetically, but structurally.
Construction Challenges Specific to Siletz
After years of living and working in this community, we've seen the same problems repeat across Siletz properties:
- River moisture and wood rot - The Siletz River keeps humidity levels high year-round. Decks, porch posts, and siding in contact with damp ground are especially vulnerable. We regularly pull off siding to find rot that's been spreading invisibly for years.
- Forest canopy and roof moss - Heavy tree cover means less sun exposure on roofs, which leads to moss accumulation, moisture retention, and shortened roof life. We repair and replace roofing with proper ventilation designed for shaded lots.
- Older home stock - Many Siletz homes date to the mid-20th century. Original windows, outdated framing, and deteriorating foundations are common. We handle full-scope renovations that bring these homes up to modern standards.
- Limited contractor access - Being a smaller community, Siletz residents often struggle to find reliable contractors willing to work locally. As your neighbor, we're already here.
